A review of the elements of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) that are applicable to state and local law enforcement officers is presented. As outlined in the CFR, all law enforcement officers who fly armed must have completed the Law Enforcement Officers Flying Armed course prior to boarding a commercial aircraft. Under the Aviation Transportation Security Act, Transportation Security Administration assumed responsibility for the course and has now begun work on transforming the course from a simple presentation to a web-based certification course with an annual recertification requirement.
