The American Bar Association has selected the American Jury as its signature initiative throughout 2005 to strengthen the jury as a democratic institution and enhance the public's understanding of its role in the system of law and government. Under the direction of New York State Chief Judge Judith S. Kaye, this year's Law Day theme is The American Jury: We The People In Action. Judge Kaye is the co- chair of the American Bar Association's Commission on the Jury. As part of this year's Law Day celebrations, the Eighth Judicial District is observing Jury Appreciation week from May 2 through May 6, recognizing local residents who have completed jury duty and highlighting the honor and importance of serving on a jury panel.
