Whether or not [Milledge] makes the team, [Willie Randolph] believes in the 21-year-old. "He's swinging the bat a little bit better," Randolph said. "[But] it's not always just hits that qualify you for making the team. It's how you look overall." Milledge went 0-for-1 in the Mets 12-0 loss to Atlanta on Tuesday.
As for Milledge, he's rolling with the punches. "I wouldn't say it's hard, it's just different," Milledge said of his being a spot player. "It's a little tough, but you learn from other guys how to handle it.

NEW YORK Omar Minaya took a seat in the visitors' dugout at Yankee Stadium on Friday afternoon and Lastings Milledge followed, dressed for a flight, not a game slacks and button-down shirt.
If Minaya seemed a bit uneasy with the news he was to deliver, the 21-year-old Milledge defused it, squeezing in next to Minaya and wrapping his muscular arm around Minaya's shoulder.

When the Washington Nationals broke camp this spring and prepared for what they hoped would be a breakthrough season, they were counting on a young center fielder with a load of talent and a young closer with a cannon of an arm to help lead the renaissance.
Within weeks, Lastings Milledge was in the minor leagues and Joel Hanrahan was in a mop-up role. And now neither player is employed by the Nationals.
