  • WEST CHESTER -- It was almost 25 years since Upper St. Clair won a state hockey title. The Panthers picked up a flair for the dramatic during their drought. Senior forward C.J. Murray finished his high school career with a hat trick and completed it with the game-winning goal at 5:29 of overtime to give Upper St. Clair (17-6-1) a 4-3 victory over LaSalle College High School in the Class AAA Pennsylvania Cup championship game at Ice Line Quad Rinks. It is Upper St. Clair's third state hockey title and first since 1987.

  • Harry J. "Hank" Hagan, 87, of Lititz, and formerly of Manheim, passed away at Moravian Manor, Lititz, on Tuesday, February 7, after a brief illness. Born in Mount Airy, Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Harry and Margaret Gallagher Hagan. Hank was the husband of the late Marianna W. Hagan who passed away in June 2009. They had celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary in September 2008. Hank graduated from LaSalle College High School in Philadelphia, in 1941. He served his country during World War II (1942-1945) as a member of the 756th Tank Battalion in the U.S. Army where he served in the European Theater that included Africa, Italy and France. He was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Lewiston; attended Acme Business College, Lewiston; Portland Junior College and Lasalle School of Stenotype, Boston, Mass. He was retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs as an administrative officer in Washington, D.C.

  • As she nears the end of her freshman year at Duquesne University, Megan Merikas has come to appreciate the education she got at Seton- LaSalle High School. I've compared my high school with a bunch of my new college friends', and it's so different," said Merikas, 18, of Brentwood.
