Comedian Larry the Cable Guy and country musicians Heidi Newfield, Pat Green and Lee Ann Womack will be among the talent filling out the Clark County Fairs entertainment lineup this summer. Larry the Cable Guy and another act yet to be determined will perform in The Amphitheater at Clark County, marking the first time the fair has used the county-owned, 18,000-seat venue. The trio of country musicians will perform in the grandstand, which seats up to 7,500.
What do they call Larry the Cable Guy when he checks in at a hotel? "Mr. Larry? Mr. Cable Guy? Mr. Guy? None of the above," says the barrel-chested comic, who performs two shows Saturday at the Benedum. He checks in as Leonard Blush, the name of a character from "The Andy Griffith Show."
Among the Blue Collar Comedy gang, Larry the Cable Guy is the blue-collarest. He's got the sleeveless flannel, he's got the hunting cap, he's got the Southern accent that's thicker than frozen molasses. And, as most people are aware, it's a character. "Larry" is merely the alter ego for Dan Whitney, whose own accent grew out of the cornfields of Nebraska. So, yeah, it's a character, but don't assume Larry is all fake.
If you go WHO: Larry the Cable Guy.

Larry the Cable Guy has achieved some personal triumphs since the last of his three trips to Maine. But on the stand-up comic's fourth trip, little will change in his one-liner approach to comedy. In the past year, Larry (aka Dan Whitney) has dropped 50 pounds and started a charitable foundation with his wife, Cara, which already has given millions directly to children's hospitals and families in need.
Comedy: Blue Collar to 'git 'r' done' at Meadows Nobody would give a pig's earlobe if Dan Whitney was performing at the Meadows Racetrack & Casino in Washington County. But when he goes by his stage name, Larry the Cable Guy, it's a different story.
Larry the Cable Guy is not quite the hick he pretends to be. In just over seven years, the comedian - or, more specifically, his alter-ego Daniel Whitney - has managed to parlay a seemingly one- note comedy act into a franchise, with millions of CDs and DVDs sold and starring roles in major motion pictures.
Dan Whitney embraces being the redneck id of the fly-over states. You may know Whitney better by his professional name: Larry the Cable Guy.
