If any occupation can be described as fun in a 9-to-5 world, it's probably the work done by Larry Nichols and Claude Comito.
Nichols and Comito are custom-home builders in a community where foothills living and jaw-dropping views attract thousands of buyers with big money to spend on palatial homes.

Larry Nichols' drive and business acumen helped him turn a small family business created with his father into one of the nation's largest independent natural gas and oil producers. But some say one of his greatest attributes is Nichols' genuine, down-to- earth personality.
Nichols earned his bachelor's degree in geology from Princeton University and his juris doctorate at the University of Michigan, where he was a member of the Order of Coif and a comment editor of Law Review. He went on to serve as law clerk for two U.S. Supreme Court justices and then served as special assistant to Assistant Attorney General William Rehnquist in the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., before returning to Oklahoma to co-found Devon Energy with his father, John Nichols, in 1970. He has se...

The oil and natural gas industry needs to step up its political involvement if it is to compete for favor with the coal and alternative-energy lobbies, Devon Energy Executive Chairman Larry Nichols said at an Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association event on Wednesday.
Stricter environmental standards may close a number of the nation's aging coal-fired power plants over the next 10 years. Replacing those coal plants with natural gas plants is as much as 62 percent cheaper than building new, cleaner coal-burning plants, Nichols said.

America could soon enter a new era of power generation as giant utilities discover the newly realized, long-term reliability of natural gas supplies, Devon Energy Chief Executive Larry Nichols said Wednesday.
While burning gas has long held favor in energy circles for its low carbon dioxide emissions, Nichols said offering long-term contracts used to require continuous new discoveries to replenish reserves. That marks one reason why coal remains the primary power source for U.S. utilities, a position that abundant, low-cost fossil fuel has kept a tight lock on for decades.

If Larry Nichols gets his way, he'll one day look out his office window in the 54-story Devon Tower onto a lush botanical garden across the street. He would also be able to watch his employees and others downtown visiting the garden and hitting the streets on foot.
Last year Nichols, CEO of Devon Energy, announced plans for the company's world headquarters in downtown Oklahoma City. With the creation of a Tax Increment Financing district that the company will pay into, Nichols said he wants to see those funds help revitalize downtown's green spaces and make the central business district friendlier to pedestrians.
