The Book of Mormon," a spoofy musical about two young missionaries in Uganda, led the way with 14 nominations when the Broadway theater's 2010-11 Tony Award contenders were announced Tuesday.
The show, a collaboration between Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of TV's "South Park," and Robert Lopez, the author of the musical "Avenue Q," is the box-office hit of the season. It also takes its place among Broadway musicals with the most Tony nominations, just below "The Producers" and "Billy Elliot," which each earned 15 nominations.
