ACTING LABOUR Commissioner M. Patricia Smith on February 1, announced that the Labour Department has begun a public awareness campaign to educate low-income workers and businesses about the Increase in the state's minimum wage. The state's minimum wage increased from $6.75 per hour to $7.15 per hour on January 1, 2007. Materials to be distributed include palm cards and posters that feature a toll-free 800 number for the public to call if they are not receiving the correct wage. These products will be available in multiple languages: Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Russian, Creole, and English. A fact sheet has also been developed that explains penalties for non-compliance to businesses.
