As executrix, she served as consultant to stage, film and printed productions of [Lorraine Hansberry]'s work in the United States and abroad. She was one of the primary people responsible for the revival of Hansberry's "A Raisin in the Sun" to Broadway in 2004, which had sold-out runs for 12 weeks. Representatives of "Memphis," the planned Universal Pictures movie about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. set to begin shooting in June, were in town this week scouting locations for the film in hopes of using the Lorraine Motel portion of the National Civil Rights Museum as a major setting.
Gwen Harmon, director of governmental and community affairs for the museum, said "Memphis" writer-director Paul Greengrass would like to shoot on the museum property, which incorporates the exterior of the Lorraine Motel, where King was assassinated on April 4, 1968. The film focuses primarily on King's final day.
