  • Kurtis Foster and Sam Gagner scored 14 seconds apart in the third period, and the Edmonton Oilers rallied to beat the Chicago Blackhawks, 2-1, on Sunday night. Nikolai Khabibulin made 26 saves for Edmonton, which improved to 2-2-2 on the road this season and 4-23-3 in its last 30 games away from home dating to December 2009.

  • The Devils acquired defenseman Kurtis Foster and goaltender Timo Pielmeier from Anaheim on Monday for seldom-used center Rod Pelley and defenseman Mark Fraser along with a 2012 seventh-round draft pick. Devils GM Lou Lamoriello said Foster "probably" will join the team in time for tonight's game in Florida, but he did not know if he would play. Pielmeier, who has been playing for Elmira in the ECHL, will be assigned to the minors.

  • With Henrik Tallinder sidelined for the fourth consecutive game because of back spasms and rookie Adam Larsson home in Sweden to attend his grandmother's funeral, the Devils were down to six healthy defensemen for Friday's game - Kurtis Foster, Bryce Salvador, Anton Volchenkov, Mark Fayne, Matt Taormina and Alex Urbom. Patrik Elias was back after missing Tuesday's game with the flu. David Clarkson, who sat out Thursday's practice because he was ill, also was able to play.

  • Marc Chouinard had two goals for the Minnesota Wild in a much- needed 5-3 victory over the scuffling Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday night at St. Paul, Minn. Kurtis Foster chipped in a power-play score, and slumping Marian Gaborik and Wes Walz also had goals for the Wild, who improved to 17- 0-0 in games when they score four or more.

  • Sabres president Ted Black, looking for a different view from the top a while back, grabbed Sabres vice president John Sinclair and a couple of 24-ounce beers and kicked back in the 300 level to watch the game against the Flyers. If you remember, the Sabres blew a 3-0 lead in an ugly loss, a sign of things to come. Black found the people around him to be different than the irate talk-show callers he hears and venomous bloggers he reads who want the roster blown up and everybody fired. The fans in First Niagara Center's cheap seats were no less frustrated than anyone else bleeding blue and gold, but they were more reasonable.
