A video meant to prepare San Francisco 49ers players for dealing with the media features off-color humor including racial jokes and nudity and has outraged team ownership and the city's mayor.
The 15-minute film shows team public relations director Kirk Reynolds sitting in San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom's office, impersonating the mayor there and in other city scenes, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Wednesday.

What's most, er, interesting about the San Francisco 49ers video story is not the videotape itself. After all, why expect anything other than bottom-fishing tactics from the public relations director of the league's worst team? What's far more vexing is the defensive "hands off" reaction voiced by some sports journalists.
The video, as we all know by now, was produced by (now former) PR director Kirk Reynolds to train starting players about the subtleties of diversity and as a teaching tool on how not to engage in race or sex discrimination. The training session was apparently prompted by homophobic remarks former 49ers running back Garrison Hearst made in 2002.

The Change-Up" buries the impressive lead performances of Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman beneath a spray of poop, almost literally. Bathroom humor occurs repeatedly, like a nervous and unfortunately noisy tic, but the film is only minutes old when an infant hits us - and Bateman, whose point of view we momentarily share - smack in the face with a projectile of, um, mess. Digital effects are used to animate the baby's nether region to heighten the "suspense" - a high-tech detail that makes this particular bit of diaper-changing slapstick especially grotesque and overwrought. I wonder: Would director David Dobkin ("Fred Claus") claim he didn't go all out and convert the scene to 3D because that would have been in bad taste?
