WEST PARIS -- A Naples man was killed Monday evening on Route 26 when a tractor-trailer loaded with wood chips rolled onto his pickup truck, setting it on fire, Maine State Police Trooper Ron Turnick said.
He identified the man as 60-year-old Richard Ray of Naples. He said Ray was alone in his 1998 Chevrolet as it headed south near 118 Bethel Road about 5 p.m.

RAYNE, La. | A tornado slammed a southwestern Louisiana town Saturday, killing a woman and injuring 11 other people. More than 100 homes were damaged, many of them destroyed, authorities said, and about 1,500 people were evacuated because of natural gas leaks. The 21-year-old woman was killed when a tree fell on her house, said Maxine Trahan, a spokeswoman for the Acadia Parish sheriff.

PARSONSFIELD -- The State Fire Marshal's Office said Saturday that one person died after a fire moved through a house on South Road near the Limerick town line.
Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said firefighters discovered a body inside the ranch-style house shortly after they arrived Saturday afternoon.

Federal investigators are trying to piece together what happened after a small helicopter crashed while doing power line work in the Leadmine area, killing one man and injuring three others.
The bright yellow helicopter broke into two large pieces after it crashed about 10:30 a.m. Saturday near a single-lane dirt road more than a mile off Leadmine Road. Chunks of its blades were scattered around the crash site as emergency personnel and officials from three private companies converged on the scene.

A fire in a single-story brick house in the 2400 block of W. Bugle Drive killed one person and sent a police officer to the hospital Friday afternoon.

A multiple-vehicle crash Wednesday night in Bethesda involving a Metro bus killed one person and snarled traffic along Rockville Pike through the evening rush hours, officials said.
The accident, which occurred at about 4:20 p.m., involved at least five vehicles including the bus and injured at least 10 people.
