A Plum man accused of trying to kidnap an 11-year-old girl from Seven Springs Mountain Resort waived his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday. Justin Louis Weber, 23, of 1041 Greendale Drive was scheduled for the hearing yesterday before Confluence District Judge Sandra Stevanus. Weber is charged with kidnapping, burglary, unlawful restraint and interference with the custody of children.

A Pittsburgh man was jailed yesterday on charges of trying to kidnap an 11-year-old girl from a room at Seven Springs Mountain Resort. State police said Justin Louis Weber, 23, entered a hotel room at the resort in Seven Springs Borough at 1:15 a.m. and carried the girl from her bed and into a bathroom. The girl was able to break free and scared Weber away by screaming. She then ran to a nearby room where her parents were staying.

A woman accused of helping to kidnap and fatally stab a Tarentum woman is scheduled to testify today against her former boyfriend in his homicide trial. Jared Moore, 24, of Monroeville and Melissa Galo, 30, of Arnold are accused of forcing Karen Hanyo out of her home at knifepoint in the middle of the night Nov. 28, 2003, stabbing her and then throwing her nude body over a hill in Monroeville.

State to review procedures after suspect undetected SAN FRANCISCO -- The Department of Corrections says it's reviewing its procedures after agency officials failed to detect that Jaycee Lee Dugard and two girls were allegedly living with registered sex offender Phillip Garrido. Department spokesman Gordon Hinkle said Tuesday the agency is looking into the matter. Agents routinely knocked on the Garridos' front door during parole checks after Phillip Garrido was released from prison in 1988 for kidnap and rape. SAN FRANCISCO - In March of 1977, Phillip Garrido was 25 and in federal prison pleading with a judge to reduce his 50-year prison sentence for kidnapping a stranger.

An Ohio woman is the third person charged with conspiring to kidnap a Pittsburgh man who told police he was taken to a wooded area of Lawrence County where he was beaten and had a rotting deer carcass dumped on him. Brandy Vantilburg, 18, of East Liverpool has been charged with aggravated assault, kidnapping, conspiracy and other charges in the May 5 abduction of Vincent Lapaine, 18. Police say the suspects kidnapped Lapaine because they suspected him in a burglary. He has not been charged in any crimes.
