As revenue falls in this recessionary environment, companies are looking to cut costs. The area of employee benefits is receiving attention as a potential place to scale back. However, with the desire to retain key employees, many businesses are loath to make cuts that will impact on employee morale.
In the 2008 regional survey by the Syosset-based benefits advisory firm C&B Consulting, a division of Gallagher Benefit Services Inc., 89.6 percent of small and midsized employers indicated that their top benefits goal was to control costs, while the second most important was to retain employees.

In April 2008 Unum, a leading provider of employee benefits, launched Simply Unum, an integrated product and service platform that allows companies with 10 to 500 employees to choose from a menu of group and voluntary benefits. The impetus for creating the Simply Unum platform, VP Andrea Gordon explains, arose from the insurers awareness of smaller employers' need for a comprehensive benefits solution that provides broad product and funding choice, employee education and enrollment, and ease of administration including simplified and real-time billing. Simply Unum's group benefits menu includes employer and employee paid Life and AD&D, as well as short-term and long-term disability coverages. For property/casualty producers who want to offer benefits solutions to commercial clients,...

The main objective of the exploratory study reported in this paper was to examine the relationships among service climate, employee satisfaction, employee loyalty, and organisational performance of service organisations. The service-driven market orientation model of Voon (2006) was adapted to gauge the service climate from the employee's perspective. Structured questionnaires were given to senior employees of three selected service organisations. A total of 120 usable questionnaires were analysed and the findings indicate that service climate positively influence employee satisfaction, employee loyalty, and employee-perceived organisational performance. There were also positive relationships among employee satisfaction, employee loyalty and organizational performance. Implications and ...
