The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has targeted three dangerous curves on U.S. 431 in Muhlenberg County for work this year to increase highway safety. The curves are a locally notorious one south of Belton known as "Dead Man's Curve" and two in the South Carrollton community in the northern portion of the county. One is at the U.S. 431-Kentucky 81 intersection and the other is the so-called KU curves near the entrance to the Kentucky Utilities Co. power plant.
ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Power company PPL Corp. said Wednesday it has agreed to acquire the parent company of Kentucky's two major utilities for $6.7 billion in cash. PPL said it is buying E.On U.S. LLC, the parent of Louisville Gas & Electric Co. and Kentucky Utilities Co., from German power company E.On AG. Together, the utilities have about 1.2 million customers.
Henderson Municipal Power and Light made considerable progress restoring power Thursday, but three out of four Kenergy Corp. customers and thousands of Kentucky Utilities Co. customers still were without power. Already, it's the biggest power outage on record in Kentucky, and while some electricity will be restored today, others could be without power well into next week. And utility officials warn that even after power has been restored, more outages are possible as trees bent over by ice rise and come in contact with power lines again, tripping circuit breakers.
