In the back of Ken Wilson's SUV, all shiny and red, are a flimsy flat of young lettuces, a pair of black knee pads - the kind with Velcro straps - and a chest-high pole of his own design, with points at both ends.

I usually describe Evansville's Ken Wilson as an aviation historian. He's been tremendously helpful as a source for stories such as one I worked on last summer about the recovery of an Evansville-built P-47 Thunderbolt from the depths of an Austrian lake. The aviation archive he maintains in the basement of his Northeast Side home comprises, I'd wager, as complete and thorough a record of World War II-era aircraft as exists anywhere.
But now, I guess I'm going to have to expand my description of Ken.

And we scientists don't know how to do that. We need your help.'

Board of Fire Commissioners Chairman Ken Wilson and Chief Charles Herrschaft told officials that engines in the past have been replaced on a 15-year cycle, but the use of this particular truck was extended due to the economic downturn and because town leaders for the past three years delayed requests to replace it.

Ken Wilson thinks Americans are on a religious pilgrimage. Most of us, anyway. Whether we spend the Sabbath at a place of worship or not, he says, we are searching for meaning in greater numbers than ever before.
And our search is drawing us together. Wilson says that, too.

KEN WILSON stood at the edge of his driveway in the Passaic County hamlet of Pequannock one afternoon last week and listened to the sounds of spring.
Birds chirped, of course. But lately Wilson has been hearing another sound, too a monotonous symphony of sewer vacuums and water pumps.
