McDonnell is a polished distance runner, but it was his will to win and save his team that will be remembered as one of the highlights of the state's indoor track season.   • RICHMOND, Va. Sen. George Allen on Monday denounced as "ludicrously false" claims from a former college football teammate that he frequently used a racial slur to refer to black people. Dr. Ken Shelton, a radiologist in Hendersonville, N.C., also said Allen, a former University of Virginia quarterback, once stuffed the severed head of a deer into a black household's oversized mailbox.

  • Kim Richard of Meriden, a registered nurse, has been named director of customer service and guest relations at the Saint Raphael Healthcare System in New Haven. She joined Saint Raphael 19 years ago as a nurse in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit and was promoted to patient care manager in 2003. Tim Rose of Southington has joined Peoples Medical in North Haven as general manager and vice president of operations. He previously worked as a pharmaceutical representative and in the home health care field. Ken Taylor has been named senior associate at Shelton-based Leggette, Brashears & Graham Inc., working out of the firm's Farmington office, having worked at the firm since 1989. Also, Michael Susca, based out of the firm's Farmington office, has been named senior associate.
