[Kelly Dougherty] was 15 and [Elizabeth Wisdorf] 16 when the two met in the 10th grade at Cañon City High School. "We rode our bikes around taking pictures for the yearbook and then we got into trouble because we had taken random pictures that were not school-related," Dougherty recalled. "Growing up in Cañon City, we had to be creative because we didn't have a mall to hang out in. So we did a lot of camping and outdoor stuff," Wisdorf said.
I don't think he knew why he had been shot and he should not have been shot. I just felt like the whole situation could have been avoided," Wisdorf recalled. "She was very heroic," Dougherty said. On another day, Dougherty's squad was approached by a bleeding man who reported hijackers -- Iraqi bandits armed with AK-47s who would shoot drivers and ...

I can't even count the number of deceits about Iraq," [Jason Washburn] says. He ticks off the Bush administration's justifications for the invasion of Iraq-from nonexistent weapons of mass destruction to Saddam Hussein's repressive dictatorship and his connections to Al Qaeda and the 9/11 attacks. "All of these things are just outright lies.
[Sholom Keller] clarifies that most veterans are opposed to the war not because of "political ideology, but as a direct result of their own experiences in Iraq." This hasn't stopped pro-war groups like the Gathering of Eagles from labeling IVAW everything from unpatriotic to communist, says Washburn. Supporters applauded the defendants as they left court, and joined them in a silent, single-file walk in commemoration of the Iraq War dead, from the Four Courts to Dail Eireann, Ireland's legislature. Supportive members of the Dail were there to greet them. The defendants submitted an appeal letter to the head of government on behalf of Kelly Dougherty, former U.S. National Guard sergeant and co-founder of Iraq Veterans Against The War. Dougherty came to Ireland to support the Pitstop Ploughshares defendants and to testify to the brutality and criminality of the U.S. occupation in Iraq. Her letter called for an end to the use of Shannon Airport by the U.S. military and asked the Irish government to offer asylum to military resisters.
