RICHMOND - Dr. William Turkington Clarke, a beloved Richmond physician died Dec. 11, 2007. Dr. Clarke is survived by his wife of 53 years, Katherine Short Clarke. He was the son of the late Edward Stiles Clarke Jr. and Evelyn Pettit Clarke. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Edward Stiles Clarke III formerly of Huntsville, Ala. Dr. Clarke was born in 1931 in Richmond. He graduated from Hampden-Sydney College and received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Virginia Medical School. He completed his internship and residency training in otolaryngology at the Virginia Commonwealth University's Medical College of Virginia. Bobsled: Erin Pac and Elana Meyers of the United States won a bronze medal in the two-person bobsled at the Whistler Sliding Center, with Canada's Kaillie Humphries beating out teammate Helen Upperton for the gold. The time for Humphries' sled was 3 minutes, 32.28 seconds with Upperton finishing in 3:33.13 and Pac in 3:33.40. American teams also finished fifth and sixth. Short-track speedskating: The American team of Allison Baver, Alyson Dudek, Lana Gehring and Katherine Reutter earned a bronze medal in the women's 3,000-meter relay when South Korea was disqualified for clicking skates with China, which wound up taking the gold.
