  • Kasem, born Kemal Amin Kasem in Detroit in 1932, is a popular radio personality and accomplished voice-over actor. On the radio, Kasem is most famous for having presented "American Top 40" from 1970 to 1988. Many in the industry credit Kasem with having popularized the "countdown" format of song presentation. Younger generations will know Kasem's work from his role as the voice of "Shaggy" on the beloved children's show, "Scooby Doo. The day's festivities included an afternoon screening of "Scooby Doo and the Monster of Mexico" followed by a session of autograph signing and impressions by Kasem. A local radio station also sponsored a "Shaggy" impersonation contest.

  • Casey Kasem might have had the best gig in broadcasting in the 1970s and 80s. After all, the weekly show in which Kasem went on the radio airwaves to count down the Top 40 songs in America gave the disc jockey and voice actor (he was the voice of Shaggy on Scooby- Doo and Batmans sidekick, Robin, on Super Friends) was pretty much the standard for the end of the Baby Boomer generation and the coming-of-age Generation X. Sports guys always want to be music guys, the same way music guys (sometimes to their own detriment) want to be sports guys. Its no wonder I spend so much time playing Rock Band (poorly, I might add). Being able to count down the Top 25 West Virginia high school sports stories of the past decade gives me a chance to emulate one of the prominent figments of my youth. It al...
