Poison Friends revolves around a group of grad school friends and the group revolves around André Morney (Thibault Vinçon). André is the epitome of intellectual cool: passionate, making broad proclamations and feverously quoting. On the first day of class in a large lecture hall he makes a loud pronouncement that writing should only be done when necessary. This idea is Andre's leitmotif, reiterated throughout Poison Friends through Andre's repeated quotes of Austrian philosopher Karl Kraus' declaration that writers write "because they are too weak not to." But the idea is also emblematic of Andre's fatal flaw. His witticisms are constructed to conceal weakness; his offense is really defense; his hyper-confidence, in fact, masks insecurity.

Congressman Jason Chaffetz has received a lot of attention from national media, including popular television programs and mainstream newspapers. His rocket-ship career in Utah politics is raising some interesting questions:
Does Chaffetz have a bright future as a long-term congressman, or is he just a conservative firebrand without much substance who will quickly flame out?
