The Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority is feeling the pinch of increasing fuel costs. The agency is running about 13 percent over the amount allotted to cover fuel costs so far this fiscal year, said Joe Lynch, executive director of the Ambulance Authority.
Kanawha County drivers heading to work Friday morning should be extra-cautious of children who will be crossing roadways for the first day of school. Members of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department and the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority will be in traffic vests outside schools encouraging drivers to heed the speed limit.
The first heat wave of the season saw more than 100 children treated for heat-related issues during Tuesday's Power game at Appalachian Power Park. The Kanawha County Commission will explore a plan that could create an emergency services campus centered around the soon-to-be built Sissonville Volunteer Fire Department. The proposed campus plan would include a new, permanent home for the volunteer fire department, as well as satellite offices for the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority and Sheriff's Department.
A paramedic with the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority has been fired after being charged with slapping a person who had been arrested by Dunbar police. Michael Wears, 37, of Gallipolis Ferry, was arrested Wednesday on charges of misdemeanor battery. He is charged with slapping a male who was under arrest for public intoxication on May 19.
