Marylanders will be able to play Powerball beginning tomorrow, joining millions of others in 31 states and Washington, D.C., in having the opportunity to plunk down a dollar or more for a slim chance to win a fortune.
But some think adding another lottery game will just cause those who can least afford it to spend more.

LISBON -- Holding one of the more prolific offensive teams in the Mountain Valley Conference to just 30 points -- and just eight made field goals -- in a game would normally be cause for celebration in the cozy confines of Lisbon's gymnasium.
But not when the home team made only five, and just one in the second half.

The Fourth Amendment was written into our U.S. Constitution to protect us from unreasonable searches. First, we had to have our carry-on bags and purses go through scanners in order to be able to fly. Then passengers had to go through metal detectors, so we removed our jewelry, watches, and belts. Even small pocket knives were banned. Then we had to remove our shoes, jackets and coats. We had to forgo bringing on board a decent-sized tube of toothpaste, hand lotion, drink of water or juice, etc. Now they have added full- body scans and pat-downs. What's next, a complete strip-down? And these rules/laws are imposed upon us by nonelected government employees who are not accountable to the people. There are better ways to protect the public than robbing us of our Fourth Amendment rights.

Soldiers often return emotionally wounded from their war experiences and domestic violence can follow. "Some are killing their families," [William C. Turner]-said. "The best way to support them is to get 'em out of harm's way. Even if the cause were just, they need to know that war is evil. It's not a game. It's not just another job. It is the work of killing.
Turner said most Americans do not understand the passion that fuels anti-U.S. sentiment in the world. "We're not dealing with a handful of insurgents who are crazy," Turner shouted. "We're dealing with smart people. We're not dealing with people who hate America for no reason. We're dealing with people who have so much sense that we don't even know what they know.

When I did 'Industry Shakedown' [in 2000] I had no support from none of these rap dudes," lamented Bumpy, shifting focus to his affinity for calling out the swindlers of the music biz. "They were crying like girls. Like, 'Aw, Bumpy, why you dissin' corporate America, dog? They gonna hate us.' You should've seen the way guys were folding on me, man. Now in 2006, when I see those same dudes, they're like, 'Industry Shakedown is a classic. It's still spinnin' in my deck. I want to make an Industry Shakedown-type album.' It's just such a fake game. So I would never frontline for none of these cowards 'cause these dudes ain't built for that. They left me hanging once, and they'll never do it again.

LEWISTON - Brandon Kenney wasn't alone in thinking of the Lobster Bowl as an All-Star football game first that also just happened to be for a good cause.
After watching Timmy Kelly's inspirational story on film, then hearing the 14-year-old croon what will go down as the definitive, and likely the only, version of Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" ever performed in the Kora Temple on Sabattus Street, Kenney and a crowd of about 400 other Lobster Bowl participants and their families knew exactly what the annual football fundraiser was all about.

Denver Once upon a time, falling behind by four runs in the first inning at Coors Field was no cause to push the panic button. It was just the start of another arena baseball game, where the over and under was two touchdowns.
Not anymore.

Run Derby for his reaction to Selig's reaction. Boone seemed taken aback by the furor but stood by his comments.
I have nothing personally bad to say about the man. This is nothing against Bud Selig, and I'm not here to cause controversy,"Boone said."I'm just saying that what I think is best for the game is a non-biased, middle-of-the-road person who makes the best decisions for baseball.
