Valley View and Oakwood used depth to win the Southwestern Buckeye League boys and girls middle school track championships recently. The meet was held at Waynesville High School. Valley View won the boys team title with 112 points to 89 for Dixie. Oakwood had to go to the final event of the meet -- the 1,600-meter relay -- to assure itself the girls trophy. Oakwood scored 81 points to 75 for Milton-Union. Neither winning team had a dominant individual, but both scored points in almost all of the 14 events in the meet. Each event was scored to eight places on a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 system with 10 points for first place. Valley View's boys got big points in the 1,600 meters, high jump and shot put.
