WINTHROP -- , 54, of Bowdoin Street, died Thursday, Feb. 17, at her home. She was born in Augusta, June 7, 1956, the daughter of Harry and Dorine (Burnham) Smith.
June had worked as a certified nursing assistant at Green Acres Nursing Home in Greene and later as a trimmer for Knapp Shoe in Lewiston. She enjoyed hunting and going to the fairs.

That was one of the key messages of Gov. Jerry Brown's State of the State address Monday evening. The speech was a vigorous defense of his budget proposal, especially of Brown's call to eliminate redevelopment agencies and to ask voters to extend a set of temporary tax increases enacted two years ago.

COSMIC FACTORY: We don't expect much when we come into our suite of offices in the morning. A couple of anti-anti-cat messages on the phone machine, a cup of two-day-old coffee, a letter from someone remembering the olden days.
We scored on all three counts Wednesday, but especially with the letter, this time from June "Brown" Lopez, of Long Beach, wondering if we knew anything about a place named Beebe's, where she recalls watching black-and-white movies outdoors in the 1940s when she was a little girl.
