MADRID -- A trawler hijacked by pirates in the Indian Ocean has been spotted by navy aircraft, and the 36-man crew is safe, the Spanish government said Saturday.
Defense Ministry spokesman Constantino Mendez said the Spanish warship Canarias was heading toward the tuna-fishing vessel and was expected to sight the fishing boat before the pirates could reach port in Somalia.

MADRID, Spain - Despite vociferous opposition from the Roman Catholic Church, Spain's Cabinet on Friday proposed legislation giving homosexuals the right to marry and adopt children.
Parliament was expected to review and approve the legislation promptly. That would make Spain the third nation to legalize gay marriage.

MADRID, Spain (AP) -- Spain's justice minister says the government needs a new financial agreement with the Roman Catholic Church.
The government has helped to finance the church since a 1979 agreement with the Vatican that allows Spanish taxpayers to contribute 0.52 percent of their income taxes if they choose.
