Zach Newton, 29, of Newburgh, never intended to become a full- time professional dog handler. But Newton's showing last week at the 2010 Westminster Kennel Club dog show in New York City might change all that.
Newton, a concrete and masonry worker, handled a 2-year-old papillon - whose name is Ch. Majestic Joy Madame Butterfly (Katrina for short) - at Westminster. From a class entry of 27 dogs, Katrina not only made the final cut, but wound up ranked third among females.

Wayne Newton didn't fall in love with music. The iconic Las Vegas showman, who performs Sunday at the Clay Center, fell in love with the joy of the crowd, with making people smile. Having musical talent was a happy coincidence.
Long before Newton ever stepped on a stage or sang his first chorus of "Danke Schoen," he was the youngest child of a small family living in Roanoke, Va. His father was a tugboat operator. His mother grew up in Ghent.

COLUMBIA - South Carolina won a critical game, but lost three very big pieces - all named Syvelle Newton - in its drive to the postseason Saturday.
Amid the celebration and joy in the Gamecocks' 35-28 victory over Vanderbilt - Sidney Rice caught his third TD pass with 1:41 remaining for the winning score - was the sobering news that Newton, coach Steve Spurrier's triple-threat playmaker, was gone for the season after tearing his left Achilles' tendon.

He was destroyed," [Duane Newton] said, "He didn't play in any of his [basketball] games this weekend. You wouldn't believe something [like this] would happen to DeShawn.
Now that joy is replaced with "shock" and "hurt" as the friend he described as "his closest in the world" is no longer around to tell jokes and share basketball stories.
"No amount of money can bring my son back," Newton said, dismissing any thoughts of a possible lawsuit, "But I'm going to make sure that this doesn't happen to anybody else's children or any more of mine."
Newton was also stellar in the classroom as he carried a 4.0 grade point average at La Tijera Elementary/Middle School, earning him the Student-Athlete of the Year Award from the Inglewood Unified School District.
