Poll: Most willing to wait on tax cuts
WASHINGTON (AP) -- President-elect Obama on Wednesday named a team heavy on experience in the Clinton administration to help guide transition efforts in the State, Defense and Treasury departments. In a statement, Obama revealed the agency review team leaders who will be responsible for reviewing budgets, personnel and policy in the three departments so the new administration can begin working as soon as he is sworn in on Jan. 20. The list comes out a day after Obama announced an ethics policy that all transition officials must sign, agreeing to avoid work for him related to any of their lobbying activities for one year. The Treasury team leads are Josh Gotbaum, an investment fund adviser who has experience in multiple federal agencies, and Micha...

The Washington Times wants the Pension Benefit Guarantee Corp. (PBGC) reforms to avoid a taxpayer bailout ("The coming pension earthquake," Comment & Analysis, Wednesday). I couldn't agree more.
PBGC has never taken a dime from taxpayers and we want to keep it that way. That's why the Obama administration proposed reforming PBGC's premiums. If Congress agrees, these reforms would both strengthen PBGC's finances and encourage companies to preserve sound pensions.

President-elect Barack Obama, continuing to draw from the large pool of former Clinton administration officials to staff his transition into office, announced Wednesday his delegates to a global economic summit this weekend and the leaders of a comprehensive review of the Bush administration.
Former Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright and former Republican Rep. Jim Leach, of Iowa, will represent Mr. Obama during the summit in Washington. They will be available for meetings with heads of state or their representatives on the sidelines of the economic summit Saturday.

Term limits didn't seem to affect the race for what many call the "watchdog for New Yorkers." Even with the extension of term limits, Betsy Gotbaum's decision to not run has led many already in public office to step up. Some of the duties of public advocate include presiding over the City Council, introducing and co-sponsoring legislation, overseeing city government and succeeding the mayor if he/she cannot fulfill their duties.
The recession is tops on the list in an effort to bring the city back from the fiscal meltdown. Candidates range from the city's current comptroller to a city council member to the Naked Cowboy. [MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG]'s billionaire budget has forced many to back out, but the strong have survived. Hot issues for the race include the economy, education and the cit...
