BEAUFORT" - Joseph Cedar (at right), a New York-bom Orthodox Jew, is three-for-three with his latest film, "Beaufort", which follows his previously outstanding "Time of Favor" (2000) and Campfire" (2004). Like an echo of the loud-speaker announcements in Robert Altaian's Korean War satire, "MASH," the soundtrack is strewn with the flat, bored intonation of a soldier warning "Incoming," followed by an explosion and a monotone, "Impact. IN INTERVIEWS, JOSEPH Cedar (who is now three-for-three after his outstanding "Time of Favor" , JEWISH STAR Feb. 9, 2001, and "Campfire"), has described "Beaufort" as a universal work about the waste and futility of war.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. David Beckman officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. • The End of a Crusade? ; Let Us Pray

Not long ago I read the good news: A number of evangelical crusaders are giving up the "good fight," meaning they are giving up their political agenda in favor of preserving their membership rolls. As pastor Joseph Fuiten of Cedar Park Assembly of God Church in Bothell, Wash., put it, he no longer wants the church to be regarded as oppressive, "as opposed to people living their lives and eking whatever happiness they can. • Police Id Pedestrian Killed by Truck

An apparently transient woman was struck and killed by a pickup truck early Wednesday on U.S. 60 outside the community of Cedar Grove. Angela Frances Ramsey, 32, died after being struck by a vehicle driven by Joseph Landers, 37, of Glasgow.
