NORFOLK - , 62, of Tampa, Fla., formerly of Norfolk, passed away Nov. 9, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael J. and Marie M. Cannon. He is survived by his devoted wife, Teresa Stubbs; a daughter, Cynthia A. Joseph Lennert, a senior graphic designer with Cannon Design, died Sunday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst. He was 69.
Mr. Lennert was born and raised in Williamsville and graduated from Williamsville High School.

For Joseph Cannon, love meant hard work in many different forms. He had plenty of jobs over his lifetime to prove it, working for NASA, the Department of Energy and serving as part of the Army Reserves for several decades. Work was a responsibility, a duty, and an act of love.
Mr. Cannon, of Portland, died Friday at Maine Medical Center. He was 85.

Mr. Joseph Ganer Cannon, age 81, of Highway 88 in Blythe, Ga., died Tuesday, November 16, 2004 in the Eisenhower Medical Center following a sudden illness.
Mr. Cannon was born on November 9, 1923 in Kuttawa, Kentucky, a son of the late Z. Cannon and Jimeddie Hayes Cannon. He was a retired construction superintendant and had made his home in Blythe for the last 26 years where he was a member of the Blythe Baptist Church and he was formerly of Chicago. He was preceded in death by children, Tammy Jo Cannon, Anna Marie Ziberna, Danny Cannon and Gina Marie Evans.

Fairfield, Ill. -- The grandson of former Wayne County (Ill.) Sheriff Thomas "Junior" Cannon has been jailed on a felony charge of aggravated identity theft.
Joseph Cannon, 31, of Fairfield was arrested Monday on a warrant accusing him of stealing checks from his grandfather and using them to pay his utility and satellite television bills.

In 1954, the U.S. Supreme Court, in Brown vs. Board of Education of Topeka, struck down state laws that established separate schools for black and white students. They ruled unanimously that "separate educational facilities are inherently unequal.
Ten years later, on July 16, 1964, and just days after the Civil Rights Act of 1964 became law, off-duty New York Police Lt. Thomas Gilligan shot to death James Powell, a black summer-school student in Harlem. The killing sparked days of looting, beatings, fires and violent clashes between the police and rioters. All this set the stage for my first close-up encounter with one of the most significant social issue of the 1960s.
