  • Vancouver may have dodged this week's predicted snowfall, but hydrologist Jon Lea found an abundance of snow Friday morning at Mount Hood. The first snow survey of the season revealed an abundant powdery base of snow near the Pucci chairlift near Timberline Lodge, where the U.S. Natural Resources Conservation Service keeps a snow- measuring gauge 5,200 feet above sea level.

  • Waukesha -- Thieves made off with as much as 50 tons of road salt that a Milwaukee snow removal company was keeping in an outdoor storage area at the Home Depot, the company owner said Tuesday. Fifty tons of salt is enough to fill two semi-trailers and cover a Home Depot parking lot 18 to 20 times, said Jon Kassander, whose Birchwood Snow and Landscape handles snow removal for the store and other businesses.
