A group of publicly owned utilities wants Oklahoma Gas & Electric to purchase part of the NRG McClain power plant. And the group wants the federal government to approve the purchase very soon.
The Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority, a joint action agency comprised of 35 cities' electric utilities, owns 23 percent of the McClain power plant. Just as during the time OMPA was formed, the authority is again taking part in the evolution of the electric power industry in Oklahoma.

NEW YORK (HedgeWorld.com) - As a result of Moody's Investors Service's downgrade of Merrill Lynch & Co. to A2 from A1, the ratings agency has put six gas prepayment bonds with a total value of $5.3 billion on watch for possible downgrade, as well. The reason, according to a Monday [July 21] release from Moody's, is that "Merrill Lynch & Co. serves as gas purchase agreement guarantor and therefore each transaction's rating is substantially based on Merrill Lynch & Co.'s rating." The gas supplier is Merrill subsidiary Merrill Lynch Commodities.

Officials and attorneys representing Boone County, the city of Columbia and the University of Missouri will huddle tomorrow morning in a closed meeting at city hall to discuss possible legal action against the Environmental Protection Agency.
