VIRGINIA BEACH - , 76, passed away peacefully in his home March 24, 2009, after a 24-year illness with Parkin- son's disease. Born in Cedar Bluff, Miss., he was the son of the late Arthur Orman and Arneta Dill Orman. He was a veteran serving four years in the Army during the Korean War and served in the Navy for 20 years retiring in 1977. Mr. Orman is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Lucy L. Orman; three sons, John E. Orman Jr. and his wife Colleen and grandchildren Katie and Shae of Virginia Beach, Michael J. Orman his wife Maria and stepgrandchildren Robbie and Amy of Newport News, James N. Orman his wife Ruth and stepgrandchildren Deborah and Timothy of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Jason Orman and Bobby Orman of Corinth, Miss.; two sisters, Pattie Thompson...

Seven educators were honored during a Kanawha County school board meeting. Melissa Ruddle of McKinley Middle School was named principal of the year, Mike Kelley of South Charleston High School was named assistant principal of the year, Bonnie Hill of Anne Bailey Elementary was named counselor of the year, Bobby Scott of Capital High School was named teacher of the year, Connie Hays was named educator of the year, Roslyn Ellis was named special educator of the year, and Johnny Dawson was named service employee of the year.

• Eversole Edges Ellis in Southside Late Model Showdown

MIDLOTHIAN -- Johnny Eversole and Russ Ellis staged an epic duel in the main event Late Model Sportsman race, but in the end Eversole needed a little bump and a little luck to take his first win of the season at Southside Speedway on Friday night. Ellis qualified sixth fastest, but started on the pole after the redraw and stayed out front for most of the race, but with twelve laps to go, Eversole bumped Ellis in Turn 2 and finally slipped by on the inside to take the lead. Two laps later however, Ellis reclaimed the lead in when Eversole got very loose in Turn 2, but a spin in Turn 4 brought out the caution and nullified that lap. Eversole restarted in the lead and never looked back.
