John Stockton, who will be inducted in the Basketball Hall of Fame this week, could be difficult to work with for the media.
The Utah Jazz's point guard hid out in the training room after games and gave only cursory answers to questions. He never would sit down for profile interviews. He reserved his great wit and warmth for teammates, friends and family only.

While admitting the escalation of salaries "boggles my mind," Utah Jazz owner Larry H. Miller staged a news conference to announce new multiyear agreements with star players Karl Malone and John Stockton.
Although exact terms of the contracts were not disclosed, Malone's contract is an eight-year deal worth an estimated $24 million, while Stockton's is a six-year contract believed to be worth as much as $14 million.

Until they bring rings to Salt Lake City, [Deron Williams] and [Carlos Boozer] never will rate with John Stockton and Karl Malone. Maybe Williams, who drives down John Stockton Drive a couple hundred times a year, would say that's obvious. Except that he wouldn't. His favorite point guard: Jason Kidd. His take on Jazz fans: "They didn't retire with John and Karl. They're hungry for a championship just like we are.

SALT LAKE CITY -- Karl Malone, John Stockton and the rest of the original Dream Team can now circle a date on their 2010 calendars and write "Hall of Fame" in the little square.
Malone, as an individual player, and the entire 1992 Olympic Dream Team have officially been nominated to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame -- as was first reported in the Deseret News in November -- and will likely be enshrined into hoops immortality in Springfield, Mass., in August.

They hung John Stockton's number from the Delta Center ceiling, Monday, and for a few moments it was 1984, 1992 or even 1998. Never mind the year. Mr. Seldomsmile, Mr. Shortpants, Mr. No Nonsense was back.
He stood at center court, looking fit enough to play in the game against New Orleans, yet uncomfortable with the fanfare, wishing the game would get going. A few self-effacing remarks, praise for teammates, family and fans, and he was back to his seat and away from the brightest lights.

EL SEGUNDO - When he was younger, Derek Fisher chased veterans like John Stockton and Mark Jackson around the court. They took him to school now and then and taught him a thing or two about playing point guard in the NBA.
Soon enough, Fisher became the elder guard the younger players sought to keep up with, taught them lessons about game management and hit game-changing shots in nerve-jangling situations. He won championships and his stature grew.

DENVER -- They spent 12 seasons as a trio -- point guard John Stockton, power forward Karl Malone and coach Jerry Sloan -- before finally getting where they wanted.
To the NBA Finals, that is.
