That's because I'm holding a .22 caliber rifle. Loaded. With bullets that could definitely do some harm, according to John Madigan of the Ethan Allen Biathlon Club. MEXICO -- Work continues on deteriorated roads in Mexico, even though the town failed to secure a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant in May.
Town Manager John Madigan said Friday that the town plans to dig up Osgood Avenue and lay down new water and sewer lines. The existing galvanized pipes are 100 years old. He said the water pressure to homes is extremely low. Planned road construction will disturb the ground around the lines and most likely cause damage to the pipes.

MEXICO -- The Budget Committee and selectmen began deliberations on a 2011-12 municipal budget Wednesday night with an overview by Town Manager John Madigan.
Before any changes are made, he said the current year's $2.6 million budget could rise by nearly $300,000, largely due to the first year's payment on a road bond. But, he said, 2011 was the best year to take out such bonds because the federal government will pay a significant amount of the interest.

MEXICO -- Selectmen approved Dawson Walton as the new manager of Generations, a public-private workout gym in the Mexico Recreation Building.
The approval was contingent upon the submission of a certificate of insurance liability by Walton, Town Manager John Madigan said.
