CHESAPEAKE - Lt. Cmdr. John R. "Bud" Harrington, U.S. Navy retired, of the 600 block of Ravenwoods Drive, passed away Feb. 20, 2008, in his home.
Born in Hartford, Conn., he was the son of the late Lester and Ruby Harrington. He was predeceased by his wife, Claire P. Harrington. At age 16, Bud enlisted in the Merchant Marines and served during World War II. In June of 1946, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. A mustang, he progressed from a seaman recruit to the rank of lieutenant commander. During 29 years in the Navy, some of his assignments included: USS Lloyd Thomas, USS Abbott, USS Muliphen, USS Little Rock, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Seoul, Korea and COMCRUDESLANT. After his distinguished naval career, Bud worked for Fleet Electronic Warfare Support Group from 1975 to 1991.

YORK -- Colonel John J. Harrington, USAF (Ret), died at Seal Rock Healthcare Facility in Saco, on Sunday, July 5, 2009.
He was born Jan. 6, 1932, in Boston, son of late James and Helen (McDonnell) Harrington. John graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas HS in Jamaica Plain in 1949, Boston College with a BS in Business Administration in June 1953 and earned advanced degrees from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, Ill. (MS in Education) and The George Washington University, Washington D.C. with a Doctorate in Education in June 1973. He retired at the grade of Colonel from the United States Air Force in October 1977 concluding 24 years of active duty service.

The funeral will be conducted at noon today at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake. The interment will follow with full military honors at Colonial Grove Memorial Park.
