John Norman "Midge" Delaney, 78, of Dubuque, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at home, following a brief battle with cancer.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, with the Rev. Greg Bjornstad officiating. Richard John Delaney, who fought in the battle for Iwo Jima and served nearly 50 years with the Eggertsville Hose Company, died Wednesday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst. He was 10 days shy of his 83rd birthday.
Mr. Delaney was born in Buffalo and attended Holy Angels High School.

From staff reports John Delaney hit a three-run home run with two- outs in the bottom of the seventh inning and Eric Weber threw a complete game to give the Quinnipiac baseball team a 5-2 victory against Massachusetts Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference game at Hamden.
Delaney went 2-for-4, including the game-winning hit, and scored twice. Pete Kummerfeldt collected three hits for the second consecutive day, while Bobak Emamian also picked up three hits for the Bobcats (15-33).
