Sen. John Boozman is co-sponsoring a bill that would require every employer in the country to use the E-Verify program to screen for illegal workers - but until earlier this month, the senator himself wasn't signed up for the system, thus violating a 1996 law that makes its use mandatory for all congressional offices. The Arkansas Republican wasn't alone. As of the beginning of this month, seven Senate offices were not signed up to use the system, which lets employers check would-be workers' Social Security numbers against a government database to determine whether they are in the country legally.

Proponents said the measure "would provide a stipend to veterans who are enrolled in employment and training programs to help cover living expenses and moving costs so veterans can move to an area where there is a demand for their military skills (since) veterans have invested in our country - this legislation invests in our veterans.
LITTLE ROCK - Sen. Blanche Lincoln defeated Lt. Gov. Bill Halter in the Democratic Senate runoff Tuesday, overcoming a flood of money from outside groups intent on ousting her and anti-Washington sentiment that already pushed out two incumbent senators this election year. With 98 percent of Arkansas precincts reporting unofficial returns, Lincoln had 52 percent of the vote to Halter's 48 percent. She will face Rep. John Boozman, the Republican nominee, in the general election Nov. 2.
LITTLE ROCK - Arkansas Sen. Blanche Lincoln lost her seat to a Republican challenger Tuesday after months of criticism that she was too closely aligned with the Obama White House, especially on health care. Republican John Boozman was to become only the second Republican from Arkansas to serve in the Senate since Reconstruction.
