Once more popular than Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby, Eckstine stole the show with sex appeal, sophistication and Black machismo, all in an era of segre- gation. Some of his hits include "My Foolish Heart," "A Cottage For Sale" and "Prisoner of Love." Eckstine was a multi-instrumentalist that played guitar, valve trombone and trumpet, the latter of which he played in Earl Hines Orchestra (1939).
