I was amazed to read the story in The Sun relative to a police officer making an issue about his superior, in essence, telling him that he was not properly doing his duty and that the department had an arrest quota. Can quotas be a bad thing? Sure, when a city tries to force their police agency to write excessive citations to fill their coffers. But criminal arrests? Come on. What thinking citizens does not want his department to do the best job possible to reduce crime in their city by arresting bad guys?
Job analysis is the process used to break a job into its component duty or functional areas and the task statements associated with those duty areas. The key deliverable of the job analysis is a validated task list. This task list is a critical deliverable because it can be used as the foundation to create multiple derivative products. The major steps of the (JASR) process include: 1. Greet participants, and conduct introductions. 2. Briefly explain the JASR process and participant roles. 3. Determine the scope of the job to be analyzed. 4. Identify the functional or duty areas. 5. Identify tasks within each duty area. 6. Print the task list and have it signed by the group.

Students are provided with a management scenario describing top management's request to develop and implement a system of performance management in the organization. Students are asked to review the scenario and develop and describe a system of performance management that will lead to enhancing long-term organizational effectiveness. Students should consider both operational and strategic issues, problems, and concerns associated with completing the assignment. To facilitate their analysis, students are provided with brief definitions/explanations/descriptions of performance management, performance appraisal, job analysis, and job descriptions.
Within a decade, Maine companies will need an estimated 1,777 additional workers with associate degrees in information technology and computers, according to a report released Wednesday by Southern Maine Community College. The trouble is, only 210 Mainers are expected to earn the requisite degrees from 2009 to 2018, leaving as many as 1,567 positions unfilled in one job sector.
Voluntary job separation, or quitting, occurs for a variety of reasons. Although it is often a positive move, it may also lead to periods of unemployment. Studies suggest that one factor that may be implicated in the likelihood of quitting is illicit drug use: Adult drug users may not only quit more frequently but also have a heightened probability of unemployment following a quit. Yet, prior research has not taken a sufficient longitudinal perspective, considered contemporary research on job mobility, nor examined gender differences. We assessed the association using longitudinal data on 8,512 individuals followed from 1984 to 1995.
