At times, it almost feels like a standard trick for confronting the blank page: When lacking an idea-of one's own, there's always popular folk fodder to rehash. But just because the fairy tale is an easy target, doesn't mean an exhibition such as the...

  • The heart of the collection is its sculpture, which engages viewers with its direct appeal to emotion whether contemplating the polished finish of Anish Kapoor's reflective aluminum and lacquer disc or the abstract expressionism of Anselm Keifer's headless, Gnostic goddess; the hyperrealism of John de Andrea's pensive, reclining nude or the assertive presence of Louise Bourgeois's oversized spider; the sly pop references of Andy Warhol's iconic Brillo box dress or the neo-pop exuberance ironically updated in Gary Hume's bronze homage to American cheerleading; the deliberately chilling juxtaposition of Mona Hatoum's razor-edged swing set or Jim Dine's playful, bronze double hearts; Donald Judds austere minimalist sensibility in his aluminum and Plexiglas boxes or the incongruity of eleme...
