With baseball's annual winter meetings unfurling this week at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, rumors run rampant. A noteworthy one involving the Cincinnati Reds is making the rounds -- pitcher Homer Bailey for Chicago White Sox outfielder Jermaine Dye.
You know, there was great players, but nobody off the chart, if you know what I mean, which means you competed as a team. Jermaine Dye had an interesting quote that I think is worth sharing with people who are paying attention at this moment. He said, "From the start of spring training, everybody was hungry." He didn't say one player was hungry or a guy going into arbitration was hungry or a free agent for next year was hungry. He said everybody was hungry.
It's tough to single out one player from such a balanced team, but Dye-who was named Series MVP-will do.

Joe Crede and Juan Uribe had RBI singles as the White Sox scored three runs in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead. Crede was 2-for-4. Scott Podsednik had two singles _ his third straight multi-hit game _ and stole two bases for Chicago, 9-5 after a 1-4 start. With a runner on and two out in the fourth, [Angel Berroa] botched Jermaine Dye's grounder to shortstop. Crede singled in Jim Thome from second to tie it, and Juan Uribe singled to drive in Dye and Crede for a 3-1 lead. DETROIT -- Jermaine Dye hit a two-out, two-run homer in the ninth inning to lift the Chicago White Sox to a 6-5 win over the Detroit Tigers on Friday night. The White Sox rallied to win in the ninth for the first time in 39 games this season after Carlos Guillen put Detroit ahead with a tiebreaking homer in the seventh inning.
The rainy weather stopped the game prematurely. The Chicago White Sox ended Cliff Lee's night soon after it started. Paul Konerko and Jermaine Dye drove in two runs apiece Tuesday in Cleveland as the White Sox chased Lee in the fourth inning and pounded the miserable Indians, 11-4, in a game called in the seventh to move above .500 for the first time since May 2.

He seemed destined for a gentle descent into oblivion, like "Everybody Loves Raymond" -- a star who had run his course and could no longer match the ability he used to possess. Instead, 35-year-old Jermaine Dye continues to evolve and subtly torture pitchers. With 19 homers and 50 RBI through his team's first 81 games, Dye has quietly surpassed expectations.
