Esmark Inc. amended an unsolicited proposal to merge with steel producer Wheeling-Pittsburgh Corp. to win support from investors, such as Jeffrey Gendell, and to scuttle a rival deal with Brazil's Companhia Siderurgica Nacional SA.
Chicago-based Esmark, a steel distributor that proposed a reverse takeover by Wheeling-Pittsburgh, said in a statement Thursday that its plan would include offering as much as $200 million in stock for sale to shareholders including Tontine Management LLC, a hedge fund run by Gendell.
