  • Students are running wild at McClellan Elementary School. Marie Bartoletti, physical education teacher at McClellan Elementary School in the West Jefferson Hills School District, has recruited 124 children to run in the Pittsburgh Kids Marathon on May 1.

  • EL PASO - All El Paso-Gridley school district fourth-graders will attend Centennial School in El Paso next year, and all sixth- graders will go to Gridley Grade School, the school board decided Wednesday. The move, which will take effect for the 2008-09 school year, was proposed last year to alleviate space concerns at El Paso's Jefferson Park Elementary School, which houses the district's kindergarten through fourth grade. The expansion of programs like special education, Title I, and reading recovery have crowded Jefferson Park, school officials say.

  • Five Kansas schools were announced recently as recipients of the 2004 No Child Left Behind --- Blue Ribbon Schools Award from the U.S. Department of Education. Each of the schools was required to demonstrate eligibility based on student performance on state assessments and their school population demographics. The five Kansas schools recognized are Eisenhower Elementary School, Unified School District 290 Ottawa; Jefferson Elementary School, USD 475 Geary County; Oakdale Elementary School USD 305 Salina; Sheridan Elementary School, USD 475 Geary County; and Stanley Elementary School, USD 229 Blue Valley.

  • To help offset rising natural gas costs, West Jefferson Hills School District officials will place a natural gas well at Jefferson Elementary School on Old Clairton Road in Jefferson Hills. This will be the district's second gas well. The first one, which the district had drilled last April, is at the administration building, on Old Clairton Road. The district earns $400 to $500 a month in revenue from the first well, business manager Matthew Howard said.
