Jim Teske feels strongly about beautifying and improving the community's artistic elements. From providing and supervising the heavy equipment used to build the new John Hole Elementary School playground to displaying the unique sculptures of local artist Jeff Rutledge, Teske and Tom Shields, co-owners of Centerville Landscaping Inc., have established a track record of being involved in the community. When we go to other areas, we feel like ambassadors for Centerville, because when people see our name they ask questions about Centerville," said Teske, a member of the Centerville Arts Commission.
They have a very complete team, and it's going to be a challenge for any team to dethrone them," [Scot Shields] said. "I hope we're up to the challenge. "The way we started, we thought it was going to be a real tough April, but it's turned out OK," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "We've performed real well, even though the pitching staff has not been consistent - except for a couple of guys. "I was trying to go low and away with the fastball, ended up throwing it in the dirt and inside, and gave [Jeff Mathis] no chance at blocking it," Shields said. "It's a hard way to get the loss. I'd much rather have given up a hit right there and have them beat me than beat myself."

Family and friends of the late Chad Shields, of Blairsville, carried out a fitting tribute to the 34-year-old motorcycle enthusiast earlier this month. Organized by Jeff Antinora of Johnstown, a close friend of Shields and a fellow member of the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters of America, the group of about a dozen gathered at Dean's Diner in Blairsville on Sept. 9 to begin a 100-mile bike ride to a Motorcyclist Memorial near Hopedale, Ohio.
Jennifer Harlan and Jessie Shields were married May 31, 2008, at Sturgeon Christian Church. The Rev. Betsy Happel performed the double-ring ceremony for the daughter of Jeff and Carol Harlan of Moberly and Otis and Valorie Shields of Columbia. Maid of honor was Leah Leuschke of Kansas City.
HOUSTON -- A bigger fuss should have been made when Jeff Karstens was overlooked for an All-Star bid. The Pirates right-hander has won five straight decisions and ranks second in the NL with a 2.34 ERA. Karstens is averaging 14.01 pitches per inning, the second-lowest rate in the majors behind Tampa Bay Rays righty James Shields (13.96).
ANAHEIM - A night of offensive heroics culminated for the Angels when new center fielder Steve Finley hit a game-ending RBI single with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning off Brian Shouse, giving the Angels a 7-6 victory Thursday over the Texas Rangers. Finley's line drive through the left side of a drawn-in infield scored Jeff DaVanon with the winning run and got reliever Scot Shields off the hook after Shields, filling in for Francisco Rodriguez, gave up a game-tying run in the top of the ninth.
