Around the time Arkansas began to rally against Ohio State, a reporter sent Patterson a text message asking if he gave a verbal commitment to the University at Buffalo.

The Loras College Varsity Athletics Hall of Fame class of 2011 features a five-man roster of all-Iowa Conference and All-American athletes and influential program contributors whose impact and achievements still resonate today.
The school will induct record-setting All-American wide receiver Kendall Griffin, standout basketball post man Jeff Carter, former swimming star Frank Quigley and contributors John Cody and Mike Runde into the Duhawks' Hall Sept. 10 at halftime of Loras' football game against Rockford at the Rock Bowl.

Lightning and an ominous peal of thunder greeted 12-year-old Kendall Reed as he scurried through the house trying to rouse his dad and younger brother Carson. His father, Jeff Reed, pointed out that the weather was locked into storm mode. "We missed all day yesterday," young Kendall retorted.

In 2004, the Steelers went through the entire season with their front five intact. This year, they've already had to play without Pro Bowl tackle Marvel Smith. Perennial Pro Bowl guard Alan Faneca is not playing at his usual level of magnificence. (Grow back the beard, Big Red, the wife's wrong.) The right side of the line is new, with Kendall Simmons and Max Starks. Steady Eddie in the middle, Jeff Hartings, is playing on knees made of bone and gristle, and who knows how much longer he can continue.

The Air Force Academy last week discounted aircraft repair problems that have left 45 planes on the ground since April, but acknowledged serious concerns about whether its 21 nonmotorized gliders are tough enough for cadet use.
The commander of the academy's flying program, Col. Jeff Kendall, described the grounding as a mainly procedural move to bring the Colorado Springs school more in line with Air Force policies. He said pressing safety issues weren't a factor.
