Anne Arundel County Public Schools completed a brand new building for Freetown Elementary School in 2009, yet less than 100 years before that, African American children in Freetown were receiving no public education at all.

In 1923, the Freetown Rosenwald School, the community's first public school building, was built with financial and technical assistance from the Julius Rosenwald Foundation and land, funds, and labor contributed by the community.

Morris Fine and Jerry and Jane Carter were taken aback recently when surprising critters from the sea washed up on the beach and fell out of the sky.
While walking on the beach at the North End, Fine came across several formidable mantis shrimp on the beach, the first time he had ever seen these odd crustaceans with their vigorous snapping claws.
