PETERSBURG - The city's School Board voted Wednesday night not to accept a $47.7 million dollar budget. With a 3-4 vote, the School Board effectively sent Superintendent Dr. Alvera Parrish back to City Council and the city manager to discuss the budget. Simultaneously, contracts for teachers and other employees, which are ready to be sent out will not be until a budget is approved.
I can't ask teachers to sign a contract that's nebulous," said School Board Member Mary Jane Hendricks during the vote. Hendricks, along with board members Fred Wilson, Dr. Kenneth Lewis and Bernard Lundy voted against the budget.
