At last count, 18 brides and 18 grooms are going to take a fateful walk Sunday down the wide center aisle at St. James United Methodist Church, a congregation with a 150-year history.
To kick off the observance of its sesquicentennial, St. James invited back any couple who had married there, or members who wished they had, to reaffirm their wedding vows in time for Valentine's Day, which is Monday. Couples will receive flowers, have their pictures taken during and after the ceremony, and be honored at a reception at the church, 439 Greene St.

Just a year ago, Alicia Kern, a Miamisburg resident, member of the St. James United Methodist Church and a retired teacher, started the Blessings in a Bag program. It's designed to feed needy kids on weekends and holidays.
The idea was simple: collect food, bag it and deliver it to a couple of Miamis-burg elementary schools.

MOREHEAD CITY - Raymond Andrew Given Jr., 52, formerly of Virginia Beach, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010, at home. He was born in Radford, Va., Aug. 1, 1958, to Raymond Andrew and Alice Whitfield Given. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, Newport.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, in St. James United Methodist Church with the pastor, the Rev. Susan Clayton Lindblade, officiating.

Entered into rest Thursday, January 28, 2010 at his residence, Mr. William A. Dodgen, Sr., 83, husband of the late Carolyn Holton Dodgen.
Mr. Dodgen was a native and life long resident of Augusta. He was a graduate of the Academy of Richmond County. He enlisted in the Navy and served during World War II as a gunner on the U.S.S. Floyd Gibson. Following WW II he began a career with Georgia Power and retired after 42 years. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church where he served as youth director for many years and was Scout Master of Troop # 3. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all he loved his family and enjoyed being with his grandchildren.
