Jayon James' selflessness paid off.
The versatile senior guard/forward scores just 3.5 points per game for Paterson Catholic's unbeaten boys basketball team, but interim Fordham coach Jared Grasso recognized James' value extends far beyond his scoring average. Thus James has accepted a scholarship offer from Fordham, where he'll join former PC teammate and freshman Rams guard Lance Brown next season.

On Nov 19, 2008, St. John's university community was terribly saddened by the death of Mary C. Daly, Dean of the School of Law and John V. Brennan Professor of Law and Ethics. Since coming to St. John's in 2004 from Fordham, where she served as James H. Quinn Professor of Law, Director of the Graduate Program, and co-Director of the Louis Stein Center for Law and Ethics, she was an energetic, scholarly, and effective leader. Her impact on the School of Law was nothing short of transformative. She established a global focus within the School through the creation of new academic programs and initiatives. The Rev. James Boyce, a former Bergen County parish priest who led the department of music and art history at Fordham University and was a professor of music there, died Sunday. He was 60.
He had liver and pancreatic cancer, said the Rev. Leonard Gilman, pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel R.C. Church in Tenafly, where Father Boyce lived in residence.

CHESAPEAKE - Mary White Lassiter, 90, passed away April 12, 2007. She was a native of Hertford County, North Carolina and a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Ruth Lambeth of Murfreesboro, N.C., and Katherine Fordham of Chesapeake; two brothers, James M. White of Whaleyville and David L. White of Zephyrhills, Fla.; four grandchildren, Jessie, Amber, Ben and Robbie; and several nieces and nephews.

Because the Jets only have one kicker and one punter, Mike Nugent and Ben Graham kept changing from green to white jerseys during the team's intrasquad game at Fordham, as did long snapper James Dearth. Brad Smith also was changing jerseys, except he was going from white as a receiver to red as a quarterback.
